Easter eggs are kind of a big thing at our house. Due to the size of our family, we end up dedicating an entire day to the hardboiling, dyeing, and decorating of the eggs. This year, the total egg count came to nine eggs a person -- 63 in the entirety.

I love taking this time to celebrate being together, by the simple and sweet tradition of dyeing eggs. Being a family. Amidst the rustle of the newspaper and the loud exclamations of "mom, mom, look at my egg!", in the middle of the noise and the somewhat chaotic normalcy, there's a peace. There's joy in the messiness, beauty in the splashes of color staining hands.

Ever since I was little, we've dyed eggs. Sometimes we do them at our grandparents. Sometimes with our cousin. This year, we did it with just us. Today we sat at the kitchen table, dipping those cool white eggs into the colorful dyes.

63 eggs dyed later, with just two mugs spilling completely and only 12 eggs breaking, it was a successful Easter egg decorating day. These moments are a gift. And we're celebrating those gifts in the simple act of dyeing eggs colorful shades of blue and green, pink and orange, yellow and purple.

Our family is steeped in traditions that have percolated down from generation after generation. Holidays are spent together as a family; certain foods and hobbies have been passed down. We go up north for a week with our family; we've always had various trips and annual get-togethers. Dyeing eggs is just another tradition that is an important part of our year -- moments that are spent together, remembering memories and creating new ones.

Any Easter traditions, sweet friends? Have a beautiful and blessed weekend celebrating the resurrection of our Savior! Taking time to reflect on His sacrifice -- thinking on His steadfast love and unending mercy. Many blessings, friends.
