The sun dipped below the hill, touching the grass with dusk. People cheered for their team and the boys ran swiftly from each end of the field, kicking the soccer ball. Wet grass filled the air with its heavy scent and the wind whistled softly.
And this boy? He watched from the sidelines, running back and forth from the field to the grassy hill behind it. Cheering his brother on, with words in his eyes saying that he wanted to play too. He laughed and wrestled with his friend, all the while glancing back to the boys running across the field.
I watched him bite his lip and focus hard on those boys, memorizing what they were doing. Mentally practicing for when it would be his turn to be out there, racing back and forth. He's following along in his older brother's footsteps, racing alongside him.
Laughing, like he's known to do.
Have any sweet memories from this summer?
